Ron and I have put a lot of thought in to whether or not we would financially be able to afford me taking a month of time off to stay with our little Squirt once they arrive and we have come to the conclusion that it is not feasible to lose half of our income for a month. :-( With that said I have come up with a plan to work around this situation and still allow me to be able to spend time with our little one!
I plan on teaching up until I deliver "Squirt" if he / she allows. This may change as we get closer but as of now I intend to still be in lessons until delivery day! I am due the first week of July so it would be very convenient if they came on time! (HA! Like that will actually happen!) For July however, what we will do is lessons will still be paid as usual (due the last week of June) just like if you were going on vacation. However, we will work in makeups throughout the year so that these lessons are already taken care of so that I can be with our baby.
So what that means is, throughout the year (starting in January) any time that works for you and myself you will get 4 lessons in. For those of you doing Solo and Ensemble, if you want an extra lesson beforehand to make sure you're prepared use of of your July lessons and you do not have to pay for an extra. Have a day that you don't have anything to do? Schedule an extra lesson and use one of your July lessons. Have a scales test coming up for school? Get that extra practice in! Want to save them up for All County season? That's fine too!
This way, you still get your lessons when you want or need them and I am still able to take the needed time off. These lessons can be used to double up (do an hour) or come in a completely different day. MOST of my students take vacations in July anyway so this is actually the perfect time to work everything out. There will be a chart at the studio to keep track of your days so that you know exactly how many you have available to you!
If you have any questions what so ever about the schedule OR about working the maternity leave lessons out please let me know. And as always, thank you for working with me and giving the amazing support that you have throughout this BIG and exciting transition for Ron and I! We know that our little Squirt will be welcomed in to an amazing, loving musical family and that is a GREAT feeling! :)
