Q. What is a Master Class?!
A. A Master Class is a small group of students of the same instrument and ability. Students come together to work on concepts that are necessary to move on from that level.
Q. What would each level work on?
A. Each group of students will, in a way, create their own class. Based off of what they have questions on as a whole and what is needed. For example, a beginning violin master class would work on basics such as posture, bow grip, basic note reading and simple rhythms. An intermediate class of the same instrument would work on things such as etudes, third position work, possibly some scales etc. An advanced group of the same instrument would take this up a step and work on more complex etudes, speeding fingers up, vibrato, different bowing techniques, tone, and phrasing. Each class will be different and continuously evolving as musicians are added and moving on to new levels.
Q. How many people would be in each class?
A. Between two and four students would be in each class. Having a small class is crucial to the students taking something away from the class.
Q. How often will these classes meet? When will they meet? Where will they meet?
A. Classes will take place once a month. Classes will meet when all schedules work. I will offer several times and students can respond as to what day and time works best for them. We will meet at my apartment in Westminster, near the hospital.
Q. How much will the classes cost?
A. $10.00 / class which can be paid at the time of the class or with lesson payments.
Q. Do students pick who is in their class?
A. No, classes are based off of ability and instrumentation not friends! However, students are more likely to get together if they have something in common (their instrument and what they're currently working on!)
